“I grew up in household of women. There were three generations of women and I was the only male. Watching my mother and grandmother, I learned how creativity, humor and grit can make up for conventional economic resources. Perhaps the most profound thing for me is that women are much more consistent and reliable in the creation and continuity of community. Regardless of who’s actually in formal power, it is women who maintain and transmit knowledge and community. What we’re lacking in our contemporary context is community and interdependence – women are more successful at building this.” –Dr. David Henkel

This fall NewMexicoWomen.Org is celebrating our community partners around the state — the passionate and committed people who invest in New Mexican women and girls.

Dr. David Henkel, Professor Emeritus of Community and Regional Planning at University of New Mexico is Taking a Stand for New Mexican women and girls because strong, capable and empowered women create strong community!
