While we were delivered a blow with last week’s Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, we will not let that distract us from our core work of mobilizing resources and support for groups around the state advancing gender justice and healing. Funding reproductive and gender justice, especially right now, is a FIERCE act of resistance. So is canvassing, voting and supporting abortion funds.

NewMexicoWomen.Org stands with our local movement leaders who have worked for decades to ensure that reproductive care remains accessible to everyone in our state, and to foster a political climate in support of abortion access. We look to them for direction around how to best channel our time and resources in these critical moments. Here is what our reproductive justice partners on the ground are requesting:

Thanks to your support, NewMexicoWomen.Org is able to continue our deep investments in communities that will be most impacted by this decision. This is essential to our gender justice mission. We will keep calm, fund on, and remember, as adrienne marie brown reminds us that, “We will not, we will not, we will not be controlled. I am sovereign in my body, I am sovereign in my soul.”
The Supreme Court ruling was not the only thing that came down in June. This month brought the rains, quelling the fires and cooling the earth. It brought Pride celebrations and Juneteenth commemorations. It brought NewMexicoWomen.Org into community with our grantee partners through online and in-person visits. It also brought another round of investment through our Adolescent Girls of Color and Healing Awards grant cycles

Join us in celebrating our most recent grantee partners!
We are thrilled to announce the recipients of our 2022 Adolescent Girls of Color (AGOC) Spring funding cycle! These grants support organizations that provide culturally relevant healing practices and leadership pathways for girls of color. New Mexico ranks 49th nationally for child wellbeing, with girls of color disproportionately facing systemic barriers to health and wellness. Research tells us that when the rights of girls are realized, they transform society in ways that benefit everyone.

That is why we support groups like, the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW), serving Indigenous girls, young women, and their families, and Girls Inc. of Santa Fe, which works with girls to identify and advocate for issues that are meaningful to them. NewMexicoWomen.Org is directing our 2022 Healing Awards to organizations doing critical gender and reproductive justice work. Reproductive justice is inherently connected to other social justice and reproductive rights issues. These awards are intended to nourish and sustain the well-being of staff members of organizations working to ensure that New Mexicans have the social, economic, and political resources to make sound decisions about their bodies, their families, their sexuality, and their reproductive health.
