NewMexicoWomen.Org (NMW.O), the only statewide women’s fund, is committed to gender justice and healing. We work daily towards a world where all self-identified women and girls, transgender, and gender non-conforming people have access to the health and reproductive care they need, where gender-based violence does not exist, where self-identified men and boys can be vulnerable and express their emotions, and where self-identified girls, especially girls of color, have internalized the message that they are worthy, powerful, and important.

Women’s funds, by offering strategic support for healthy movement building ecosystems, play a key role in creating this world, and so do you. Help us foster this ecosystem for change with a gift today!

In 2021 NMW.O was able to:

  • Disperse a fifth year of Gender Justice & Healing grants to organizations led by or serving women and girls of color, as well as low income, immigrant, LGBTQ+, and rural communities. Building deep relationships with our partners and ensuring multi-year funding is a key part of our grantmaking strategy. Our grantee partners at Flowering Tree Permaculture Institute expressed to us, “As Indigenous women of New Mexico, we are grateful to be seen and supported in the ways that we uniquely need support.”
  • Deepen our support for adolescent girls of color by investing in organizations that focus on their leadership and well-being. Grants were distributed to groups working on multimedia projects led by and for young Indigenous women and LGBTQ+ youth, hosting summer camps for Black girls, and offering other programs around the state. We were thrilled to hear that, “girls were celebrated and felt valued.” We know that when girls are at the center, their rights realized, and their voices heard, they transform society in ways that benefit everyone.
  • Address the profound consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the high levels of burnout and vicarious trauma in communities through our Healing and Self-Care Awards. As one partner expressed, “My deepest appreciation to NMW.O for initiating grants that uplift and recognize healing during these times.” When women of color leaders are supported to take care of themselves, they become positive role models for the girls they serve.
  • Examine the ways in which patriarchy and misogyny have also harmed self-identified men and boys. Through our statewide collaborative, we are working on a Healthy Masculinities Toolkit that will be a free resource for engaging in courageous and transformative conversations about masculinity.
It has been four years since NewMexicoWomen.Org became an independent women’s fund. Since then, we have built strong programmatic relationships with partners, ensured steady financial growth, and increased our organizational capacity to better serve communities around the state (please see our 2020 Financial Report). We are proud that, with supporters like you, NMW.O has flourished from seed to flower.

Ongoing contributions from grassroots donors enable us to leverage larger dollars from national funders. Our increased investment in self-identified women and girls and their communities would not be possible without you. We appreciate your love, support, and commitment to gender justice and healing in New Mexico!

In community and with gratitude,
