Our Work

Programmatic Areas

NMW.O works to advance our mission through our key programmatic work areas including:

Grantmaking: Our current grantmaking strategy is focused on gender justice and healing. Within that, specific portfolios include adolescent girls of color, healthy masculinity, and healing and self/community-care.  Our grants support organizations and programs seeking to address root causes of inequity. They are largely operations grants in order to enable our partners to be flexible and adaptive. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we also initiated a Gender Equity Emergency Fund for organizations serving self-identified women and girls in communities of color, low income, rural, immigrant, and LGBTQI communities.

Training and Education: NMW.O is committed to educating and learning with donors about issues of race, gender and privilege. In the past, we have also offered community-oriented trainings around gender justice and anti-racism, as well as fundraising training with a social and gender justice lens.

Research: Our ongoing research seeks to draw public attention to the issues impacting self-identified women and girls with an eye towards influencing policy and philanthropy and supporting community organizations with research and data relevant to their work. Our recent research includes Gender Justice at the Heart of New Mexico’s Pandemic Recovery and The Heart of Gender Justice in New Mexico: Intersectionality, Economic Security, and Health Equity.

Communications: Our communications campaigns seek to shift the narrative on gender, intersectional feminism and social justice in New Mexico. We believe that clear and compelling communication that is both data and research driven, as well as story-based and community-centered, is essential to creating social change.
