- Respect NM Women, a coalition of 16 organizations based throughout NM, including Strong Families NM, Bold Futures, Southwest Women’s Law Center, Tewa Women United, the ACLU of NM, Girls Inc of Santa Fe, Indigenous Women Rising and others, advocated for and passed #HB25, the Pregnant Worker Accommodation Act, which protects New Mexico’s working people from pregnancy-based discrimination. - Strong Families NM and the NM Center on Law and Poverty, in partnership with New Mexico Together for Healthcare, worked on a statewide campaign to pass #HB278, a bill which calls for the creation of a Healthcare Affordability Fund, making health care more affordable for working New Mexican families. This bill would raise $125 million a year by replacing a federal insurance company fee, that is currently phasing out. Although there was not enough time in this 30 day session to take up this topic, it will be an important conversation in interim legislative committees, and next year’s legislative session.
- The NM Dream Team and NM Immigrant Law Center were instrumental in passing #SB137, which removes occupational and professional licensing barriers, giving ALL New Mexican families access to professional and occupational licensing regardless of immigration status.
- OLE advocated for #HJR1, Permanent Funds for Early Education, which would bring a ballot question before voters: “Should New Mexico use 1% from our land grant permanent fund to pay for early childhood education?” Although there was not enough time in this 30 day session to take up this topic, it will be an important conversation in interim legislative committees, and next year’s legislative session.
