Women In Leadership (WIL), a grantee partner of NMW.O through our Gender Equity Emergency Fund, recently facilitated 16 free virtual educational sessions and a needs assessment for over 100 women impacted by the criminal justice system. Employment for returning citizens was found to be one of the largest needs, with challenges including criminal history questions on job applications and risks of exposure to COVID-19. Of the participants who were previously incarcerated, 85% were mothers struggling with basic needs and in need of increased long-term support to reduce recidivism and enable their families to remain whole and thrive.
The mission of WIL is to “uplift, empower, and inspire women to develop self-advocacy skills in order to become leaders through personal and professional growth by providing access to leadership development and educational opportunities.” Learn more about and support their work by clicking here!
