Harvest season is upon us. It is a time to celebrate what we have cultivated and take stock of what is needed to sustain us through the winter months. At NewMexicoWomen.Org (NMW.O), it is grantmaking season. The time of year when we move the resources we have raised from national and local donors toward organizations working to support the creativity, leadership, healing, and power of self-identified women and girls and their communities.

We know that it takes at least three to five years of restoration for soil to be considered officially “organic.” Similarly, given the histories of colonization and structural inequities that have harmed communities in New Mexico for generations, fostering an ecosystem of justice and healing requires sustained funding over time. In other words, a one-year grant is not sufficient! That is why NMW.O is committed to long term, multi-year funding as a key grantmaking strategy. To this end, we are excited to announce the fifth year of Gender Justice and Healing grants awarded to organizations around the state doing powerful gender justice and healing work.

NMW.O’s Gender Justice and Healing grants support groups working toward gender and racial justice and culturally rooted healing. For the past four years, these grants have prioritized organizations led by or serving self-identified women and girls of color, transgender and gender non-conforming folks, immigrant, low-income, and rural communities. You can learn more about the powerful work of our 2021-2022 Gender Justice and Healing grantee partners here.

“NewMexicoWomen.Org has been right by our side since the inception of our Con Mujeres program. The support and camaraderie that we have received has been uplifting for our staff and members and goes far beyond the grant dollars.”

As our partners at SouthWest Organizing Project attest, multi-year grants that are rooted in gender justice values enable us to deepen relationships with our statewide partners, who in turn, seed and support long term movements for gender justice and healing. NMW.O is honored to be in community with the amazing organizations below:
