What Can You Do to Celebrate International Women’s Day?

NewMexicoWomen.Org is celebrating International Women’s Day along with our many partners who are working for gender justice across New Mexico. Below are national and local ways you can participate.

NATIONAL: Women’s March on Washington, A Day Without a Woman.

Join by making March 8th A Day Without a Woman in one or all of the following ways:

    1. Women take the day off, from paid and unpaid labor

    2. Avoid shopping for one one day 

    3. Wear RED to show solidarity with A Day Without A Woman

LOCAL: Attend one of the many International Women’s Day events throughout the month of March in New Mexico! Click on the links for more information.

1. Join Southwest Women’s Law Centerfor their event, “Celebrating Women’s Stories” on March 30, 6-9 pm in Albuquerque. 

2. SouthWest Organizing Project’s NM Con Mujeres will host “8 Hours Of Courage and Love,” an International Women’s Day Facebook Live Stream event on March 8 from 9am-5pm.

3.Kalpulli Izkalli will be participating in NM Con Mujeres “8 Hours Of Courage and Love.” Listen from 11am-12pm as Kalpulli Izkalli and the Promotoras Tradiciónales present “Healing, Activism, and Transformation.”

4.The Center for Gender Equity at Western New Mexico University in Silver City is hosting F-Week, five days of guest speakers and events focusing on gender equity.

5.Northern New Mexico College’s Office of Equity and Diversity in Española has several upcoming free events that are open to the public, including a screening and discussion of the film Daughters of the Dust on March 16th and a women-of-color led writing workshop on March 23rd.

6. Albuquerque’s National Hispanic Cultural Centercelebrates women with programming that honors their contributions to dance, music, theatre, art, poetry, films, novels, and much more. Check out their schedule for the month of March.

7. Finally, you can Take a Stand for New Mexico’s women and girls by donating to NewMexicoWomen.Org.
