As we come to the end of 2021 and our second year in a pandemic, we feel all that is happening in our communities personally, politically and economically. COVID variants keep us in a holding pattern of collective uncertainty. Voter suppression laws are being pushed in many states. Our trans relatives are experiencing record-breaking violence. Legislation is being passed that punishes people for seeking affirmative care. Threats to the dignity, safety, and health of people needing or seeking abortions loom large with the Dobbs v. Jackson abortion case. If Roe v. Wade is overturned, women, girls and LGBQT+ people of color will be disproportionately impacted due to inequitable access to healthcare. If we thought we were tired last year, this year, many of us are downright exhausted.

Given what feels like overwhelming challenges, and incredibly high stakes, it is essential for us to find ways to sustain our well-being at home and in community. We must make space to process and heal. That’s why NewMexicoWomen.Org is deeply committed to supporting healing and self-care for organizations and leaders throughout New Mexico. And why we are committed to building spaces where we can reflect on our past, present, and future.

As a women’s fund that serves as an intermediary, we are uniquely positioned to distribute resources and to shift narratives that influence the policies that affect our lives. This year we have disbursed over $400,000 in grants to communities throughout the state, and we are excited to double this amount in 2022.

As we close out the year, we pause to celebrate the work we have done together, and to give thanks for our beloved community, without which none of this would be possible.

Sending holiday blessings of love, rest, and connection your way,
