NewMexicoWomen.Org had the tremendous privilege of hosting an evening with Aimee Allison of She The People, Congresswoman Deb Haaland, and several powerful community partners for our virtual fundraiser, Represent! The Politics of Gender Justice and Healing, held on September 17th.
We are so grateful to you, our community, who joined us for this night of intimate, inspiring and heartfelt conversation. It was a potent and grounding way for us to move into the Fall together, as we mark over six months of the pandemic, and turn to one of the most tumultuous and significant election seasons of our lifetimes, shaped by a politics of violence, misogyny, and racism. Above, is a portion of Aimee Allison’s response to a question so many of us are asking ourselves, as we imagine a future that serves us all, “What does a politics of love, justice and belonging look like to you?”
Many thanks to our incredible community partners at Encuentro NM, La Semilla Food Center, The Healing Circle Wellness Center, Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico, Indigenous Life Ways, and Tewa Women United for your powerful words on why representation matters. Also, a shout out to Sarah Silva, our Board Chair, for femmceeing, Renee Villarreal, our Program Co-Director, for moderating, Andrea Michelle Lucero for the beautiful musical opening, and Cecile Lipworth with Ripple Catalyst Studio for helping us produce this event. Finally, an enormous thank you to our wonderful Host Committee for supporting Represent!
