“all organizing is science fiction…social justice work is about creating systems of justice and equity in the future, creating conditions that we have never experienced.” – adrienne maree brown
Dear Friends,
At NewMexicoWomen.Org (NMW.O), we work daily to build a world that is free of patriarchy, toxic masculinity and violence against women and girls, as well as transgender and gender nonconforming folks. This is a world that we have yet to inhabit, but in which we truly believe. Creating this future requires a deep imagination, especially as we navigate these times of political, social, cultural and environmental crises. As 2019 comes to a close, we want to thank you for investing in gender justice and healing, and for lending your imagination, wisdom and support to the work of NMW.O.
2019 has been a year of deepening and strengthening for NMW.O. Your investment has enabled us to:
-
- Disperse $114,000 in grants to groups working on gender justice and healing in communities statewide, and $130,000 to programs investing in the leadership of adolescent girls of color.
- Explore pathways and research solutions for healing toxic masculinities in coalition with community partners from around the state.
- Shift narratives around patriarchy and intersectional feminism in New Mexico, through our communications and educational campaigns such as #NMSheroes and #SayWhatNM.
- Center indigenous and women of color’s leadership and voices at this year’s Northern New Mexico Women’s March.
NewMexicoWomen.Org is one of many critical voices in the national women’s funding movement when it comes to centering the experiences of self-identifying women and girls of color. Because of this commitment, NMW.O was one of ten women’s funds selected by the Ms. Foundation for Women for their inaugural Building Connections matching grant of $25,000. From now until December 31st, every dollar you give to NMW.O will be matched by the Ms. Foundation for Women! Click here to contribute to this match.
Envisioning a future free from patriarchy and injustice is an act of resilience. The art above, painted by celebrated artist, Jade Leyva, symbolizes the power of our collective imagination, as we shape a future in which all self-identifying women and girls, their communities and environments are thriving. A future that we each have a hand in creating.
Thank you again for investing in gender justice and healing in New Mexico. We so appreciate your support!
All the best,
Sarah Ghiorse, Executive Director
and the NewMexicoWomen.Org Team!
